Sunset and Birches captures a stand of birch trees against the changing colours of an evening sky. The bright white trunks and dark markings stand sharply against the softer pinks, purples and oranges of the sunset. I wanted to keep this piece simple and bold, focusing on the contrast of the birches against the warmth of the sky and that short moment when the colours of the evening begin to change.
